PostHog has completely changed the way I understand user behavior on my site. The session replay feature is like binge-watching user interactions – it’s as engaging as a Netflix series, but with way more actionable insights. I literally watch every day how users navigate, where they click, and what might be causing them friction. It’s one thing to see metrics on a dashboard, but it’s on a whole other level to watch actual user sessions play out. It’s like having a front-row seat to understand what’s working and what’s not, and it’s made improving the user experience faster and more intuitive. By the way, It's free easy to integrate (in seconds) and opensource - I can just use PostHog for all things analytics and beyond instead of various analytics tools.
What I find challenging about PostHog is that, with so many features available, it can feel overwhelming at first to figure out where to begin. It’s not always clear which tools I should use for specific needs, and I’ve had to take some time to understand how each feature aligns with my goals. A bit more guidance or onboarding for new users would make the experience smoother.
PostHog solves several key problems for anyone looking to understand user behavior deeply and improve their product experience. First, it gives me a full view of user actions through session replays, heatmaps, and event tracking, which means I can easily spot areas where users might struggle or drop off. (Example: I got to know why i'm not getting newsletter subscribers and made a change and signups started rolling). Additionally, PostHog’s analytics are all-encompassing, which means I no longer need multiple tools to analyze user interactions, A/B test, or track metrics. Having everything centralized saves time and gives me a clear, holistic view of what’s happening on my site. The biggest benefit is the ability to make data-driven improvements much faster. Instead of guessing what users need or reacting to issues after they escalate, I can proactively address problems as soon as I see them play out in user sessions. This ultimately helps improve user satisfaction, which is crucial for retention and growth.
Best in class onboarding with features and pricing to match
Having a set of complimentary services all withing a single provider that you can progressively adopt as you grow into the need makes early product development so much easier.
Not found anything so far they have everything I have needed.
It allows us to safely make changes across our products while also being able to assess the impact and success of these changes. Previously this was two if not three seperate products each with higher costs and effort to integrate.
Posthog the richest product analytics there is
The fact that it provides such an easy way to implement and access useful and powerful tools that help us build the best products!
So far I cannot find anything that I don't like about it.
We need a better view about the way our users are using our services and how we can improve the conversion rates. Posthog gives us an easy access to the user's point of view so we can tackle the exact blind spots.

By default, events are anonymous, meaning they don't have any personally-identifiable information attached to them.
They come with info about the browser and device, visitor's location, and any UTM parameters.

How do I know what my volume is?

The easiest way is to sign up for the Free plan. You'll get an accurate volume projection after just a few days.
Do I pay anything for stored events?

No, you only pay the fee per captured event in a given month (i.e. you only pay when each event is first received). There are no additional costs or fees.
How long do you retain data?

Data (except recordings, see below) is guaranteed to be retained for 7 years on any paid plan and 1 year on a free plan. After 1 year, data may be moved into cold storage so queries may run more slowly.
How long do you retain recordings?

Recordings are kept on Clickhouse-based installations for 1 month. For paid customers on PostHog cloud, recordings are kept for 3 months.
What happens after the data retention period elapses?

Yes in most cases - 50% off any plan. Create your account, then email sales@posthog.com from the same email address with some basic details on your organization. We will then apply a discount.
Are there any minimums or annual commitments?
